Prompt — Write about a vacation you took. What made it memorable?

In 2010, Carnival Cruises decided to upgrade its service in Charleston, SC, from docking for day trips only to offering departures. We lived there then and saw a great opportunity for a cruise that didn’t involve traveling a long distance to a departure port.

And off we sailed — Charleston Harbor to Nassau, Bahamas. We signed up for two island excursions — both were lots of fun.

  • First was a drive-yourself jeep tour. There were several jeeps with a guide driving his jeep. The driving was a bit challenging — the driver’s seat was on the left, just like home, but the lanes were reversed, like in England. There were several stops where we all got out, and our guide shared interesting history and stories. Our last stop was a bar on the beach, where we relaxed for an hour or more. The sea was completely clear — I stared at my feet! There were vendors with jewelry, t-shirts, and promises of Cuban cigars.
  • Our second excursion was to the Atlantis resort, where we had a reservation to get in the water with dolphins. We also walked through a very unique aquarium exhibit. An unforgettable day — and I didn’t even tell you…
